Beyond the Horizon: Welcome to the Ultimate Alaska Flight Log

If you have ever stood on the edge of the Homer Spit, looked out across Kachemak Bay, and wondered what lies just beyond those towering volcanoes on the horizon, you are looking right at it: the wild, untamed landscapes of Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks.
Welcome to our brand-new weekly blog!
For travelers and adventurers worldwide, Homer is the ultimate launching pad. But as any local will tell you, the road ends here. To truly experience the raw majesty of Alaska’s most iconic parks, you have to take to the sky. Through this weekly blog, we are giving you a front-row seat to what it’s like to operate bush flights into the heart of bear country, glacier fields, and untouched alpine lakes.
Why We Fly: The Magic of Katmai & Lake Clark
Roads can only take you so far in the Last Frontier, but a bush plane opens up a universe of wilderness that looks exactly as it did thousands of years ago. Every week, our pilots guide adventurers across the Cook Inlet to two of the most spectacular national parks on earth:

  • Katmai National Park: Famous for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, and the legendary brown bears at Brooks Falls that rule the roaring rivers.
  • Lake Clark National Park: A stunning tapestry of turquoise lakes, jagged peaks, twin active volcanoes, and pristine coastal flats where bears graze peacefully on salt marshes.

From the air, these parks are an artist’s canvas of electric-blue glaciers and braided rivers. On the ground, they offer a humbling, life-changing encounter with Alaska’s apex predators. We realized that keeping these sights and stories to ourselves just wasn’t fair.
What to Expect on This Blog

Booking a flight into a remote, roadless national park comes with a lot of questions. When is the peak time to see bears catching salmon? What should I pack for a day in the backcountry? What happens if the coastal weather changes?
We promise to answer all of those questions right here. In the coming weeks, we will break down:
  • Insider Gear Guides: What to wear and bring so you are completely prepared for the Alaskan elements.
  • Park Spotlights: Detailed deep dives into the best spots within Katmai and Lake Clark, from famous river falls to hidden coastal bays
  • Pilot Perspectives: A look at how we navigate changing weather, safely land on remote beaches or lakes, and respect the wildlife from the air and ground.

Clear for Takeoff: Join the Adventure!

We might be the ones in the pilot seats, but this blog is for you. We want to build a community of adventurers who dream of standing on the edge of the wild.
Until next time—keep your eyes on the skies, and we’ll see you on Beluga Lake!
